I reblog this every time it comes up on my dashboard, not because it is a “rule” but because every time I see it the love and sincerity on her face hit me all over again and I think everyone deserves to see that.
And THIS is why I adore Catherine Tate. She’s loud and brash but in quieter moments… her soul comes shining through and it makes everything about her so much more beautiful.
He said Star Trek is too “philosophical”? Screw that noise.
I don’t know when this interview happened but I AM SAD AND ANGRY NOW
The philosophies in Star Trek are kinda part of the actual setting. If you don’t get that, why are you allowed to make Star Trek movies.
Sigh. The whole point of Star Trek is that it’s philosophical. If you don’t want philosophical Science Fiction, there’s plenty of that for you to enjoy, but Star Trek is philosophical. Philosophy is part of Star Trek’s DNA, and if you’re given the captain’s chair, you’d better damn well respect that.
That’s so upsetting to read. The reason Star Trek is so great is because it’s sci fi with a heart, and with a brain. It’s why it meant so much to so many people, why it lasted so long, and why it’s still around today. Because it’s a show that had something to say, that made you think and made you feel.
Commander Chris Hadfield performing Bowie, ladies and gents! Thank you Sir, for continuing to make science`(and mustaches) cool! And welcome home.
I hate it when people say “The book was better than the movie.” I hate it for a few reasons… (I’ll also note that this doesn’t apply to every single book made into a movie- this is a broad observation)
First of all, let’s be honest, you’re just saying it to flaunt your false sense of superiority over having read the book. Don’t get me wrong, I love books- they’re wonderful. I hate people who think they’re better than other people because they read books. You’re never going to encourage a non-reader to start by judging them.
Secondly, you can’t just inherently call a book better. It’s not necessarily better, it’s just different. It’s like comparing apples and oranges. Or cake and pie. Or cookies and ice cream. (Wow, I’m obviously really thinking about food). One is not better than the other, they’re both good for their own separate reasons. Some people may favour one over the other based on personal preference, but that doesn’t make it better, it just makes it more your taste. They’re each different but wonderful forms of storytelling.
So can we please all stop saying this and just appreciate each form for what it is?
